Campsites near Cowes Week

Cowes Week 2027 runs from Saturday 31 July to Friday 6 August, with racing in the Solent every day and the start line off the Royal Yacht Squadron at the end of the Parade. The regatta has no camping of its own, and there is no campsite in the town itself, so you stay out at Northwood, Gurnard or East Cowes and come in on foot or by bus.

The week ends with fireworks over the water on the final Friday, which in 2026 was 7 August. That night is the busiest of the year in Cowes, so choose a site you can walk back from or one near the route 1 bus. In 2026 Wight Proms also ran at Northwood House from 31 July to 9 August, the first time the open-air concerts had overlapped with Cowes Week.

Getting in and out during the week

Leave the car at the campsite if you can. In 2026 the Parade was closed to vehicles from 10am to 6am every day, and the High Street was shut between Terminus Road and Carvel Lane from 6pm until at least 1am. On firework night Queens Road closed from about 5pm, and Prince's Green fills with people watching the display.

The route 1 bus between Newport and Cowes runs about every 10 minutes in the daytime and passes through Northwood. Southern Vectis put extra buses on the 1 and the night N1 after the 2026 fireworks. Drivers can use the Somerton park and ride, and Northwood House sold extra parking all week, including the Friday night.

Coming over on the Red Jet or Red Funnel

The Red Jet from Southampton lands in West Cowes in about 28 minutes, a few steps from the High Street and the regatta, which makes a foot-passenger trip easy if your campsite is on the bus route. Red Funnel's car ferry takes about an hour to East Cowes. From there Waverley Park is a short walk uphill, and the chain ferry crosses the Medina to West Cowes. August is peak season on every crossing, so book both ways when you book the pitch. See the near the ferry list for sites close to both terminals.

Round the Island Race

The Island Sailing Club's Round the Island Race also starts off Cowes. The 2027 race is on Saturday 10 July, the same weekend as the County Show at Northwood, so the campsites on this page will be busy that weekend too. Hundreds of yachts start in waves early in the morning from the line off the Parade, then sail west down the Solent to the Needles. For the rest of the course, see campsites near the Needles.
