Retro Staycations is a four-acre meadow on Hazelgrove Farm, a working beef and sheep farm on Ashey Road below Ashey and Brading Downs, about six minutes' drive from Ryde. Its centrepiece is a fleet of restored American Airstream trailers from the 1940s to the 1970s, each kitted out in period style with a small kitchen, a shower and all bedding and towels.
Across the field is a traditional camping area for tents, caravans, motorhomes and campervans, with ten large electric pitches with water and plenty of space without power. Pitches are not marked, so groups can camp together. There are also two insulated camping pods let as empty shells. Campers share a heated toilet and shower block, washing-up sinks, a fridge-freezer, a sheltered communal seating area and the farm shop selling the farm's own meat, eggs and veg.
Raised barbecues and fire pits are fine and logs are sold on site. The owners also run retro music nights and the Wight Buggin' VW festival in September on their Airstream stage, so check the events calendar if you want a quiet weekend.
