Dog friendly campsites near Cowes Week, Isle of Wight

Of the 9 campsites within 3.5 miles of Cowes Week, 6 take dogs.

Cowes, East Cowes and Gurnard beaches all have dog exclusion zones from 1 May to 30 September, so in 2026 every day of Cowes Week fell inside the ban. The zones cover set parts of each beach rather than the whole shore, and signs mark them. Dogs must also be on a lead on roads and pavements across the island.

Think about the fireworks before you book. The display is loud, Prince's Green packs out, and Waverley Park does not allow dogs to be left alone on site or in caravans, so someone may need to stay behind. The Ark Park is fully enclosed and dogs can stay in the arks, though pigs, sheep and other farm animals live next door.

In the daytime, the Classic Boat Museum at Medina Village welcomes well-behaved dogs on leads, and the Travellers Joy pub near Comforts Farm is listed as dog friendly. Thorness Bay, below the holiday park, is not one of the council's restricted beaches. Dogs travel free on the Red Jet and the car ferry. See camping with dogs.

Questions people ask

Can I take my dog to Cowes Week?

Dogs can come into Cowes on a lead, but parts of the Cowes, East Cowes and Gurnard beaches are closed to dogs from 1 May to 30 September. The Friday fireworks are loud and crowded, so many dogs are happier back at the campsite with someone.

Are dogs allowed on Cowes beach in August?

Not in the exclusion zones. In 2026 the council's order banned dogs from set areas of Cowes, East Cowes and Gurnard beaches from 1 May to 30 September, with signs at each beach.

Can dogs go on the Red Jet to Cowes?

Yes, for free. Red Funnel asks for dogs to wear a collar or harness and stay on a lead on board.

What is the nearest dog-friendly campsite to Cowes Week?

Waverley Park Holiday Centre, about 0.8 miles away as the crow flies.

Which is the cheapest of the dog-friendly campsites near Cowes Week?

Thorness Bay Holiday Park, from £10 a night for two adults, is the lowest price we can find over the next year. Prices change with the season and the day of the week, so put your dates into the calculator on this page.

Are any of the dog-friendly campsites near Cowes Week open all year?

Yes: Waverley Park Holiday Centre.

Can you have a campfire at any of the dog-friendly campsites near Cowes Week?

Yes, at Comforts Farm, The Hydeaway and The Ark Park. Most want fires in a raised pit, not on the ground.
