Campsites near the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally

The Isle of Wight International Scooter Rally is held at Sandown Airport over the August bank holiday weekend. In 2026 it ran from Friday 28 to Monday 31 August, with early arrivals let in from 12pm on the Thursday. The 2027 dates had not been announced when we checked; the bank holiday falls on Monday 30 August 2027.

Up to 10,000 scooterists come, and most camp at the airport itself. The rally camp is run by VFM for the British Scooter Rallies Association, and in 2026 a £35 weekend wristband covered camping, the bands, the custom show and the trade village. If you'd rather sleep away from the bars and the engines, half a dozen campsites sit within 2 km of the airport gate on Scotchells Brook Lane.

Rally camp or a campsite nearby

Stay on the rally camp if you want to be in the middle of it all night. Book a nearby site if you have children, a caravan, or want a hot shower without a queue. The Old Barn, Willow Brook and Ninham are all on the Newport Road side of the airport, roughly 10 to 20 minutes' walk from the gate, so you can walk back after the bands instead of riding.

Bank holiday weekend is peak season everywhere around Sandown Bay, and the Island Steam Fair at Havenstreet runs the same weekend, so sites fill early. Book as soon as the rally dates are out.

The Sunday ride-out

The ride-out is on the Sunday afternoon and usually leaves from the former ice rink on Ryde Esplanade (the 2024 run set off at 1pm). The route runs via Puckpool, Nettlestone, St Helens and Latimer Road to Bembridge, then Yaverland, Sandown High Street, Shanklin and Apse Heath, and back to the airport.

If you're watching rather than riding, Sandown High Street and the Yaverland road are easy to reach on foot from the campsites around Lake and Apse Heath. Expect the roads on the route to be slow for most of the afternoon.

Ferries for scooters

Wightlink has run a rally offer in past years: for 2025 it was 20% off foot, car and motorcycle fares to the Island for travel from 21 to 26 August. Check Wightlink's Scooter Rally page for the current year's terms before booking. The Friday and the bank holiday Monday are the busiest crossings, so book a sailing early if you're bringing a van or trailer. Our guide to taking a tent on the ferry covers the rest.
