The Woodland Retreat is a very small site in The Plantation off Ashlake Copse Road at Fishbourne, set among mature trees where red squirrels, buzzards and jays are regular visitors. It feels tucked away, yet the Wightlink ferry terminal is about 15 minutes' walk and bus stops five minutes, so arriving without a car is realistic.

Paths lead to Quarr Abbey and its tearoom (about 20 minutes on foot), to Ryde and to the shore at Woodside. Wootton Bridge, with a food shop, pharmacy, pizzeria and restaurants, is about 20 minutes' walk or a short bus ride.
