The Hydeaway is a small, eco-minded, off-grid campsite on the edge of a valley in the countryside south-west of Cowes, about ten minutes' drive from Gurnard's seafront. Hedges full of blackberries, sloes and crab apples line the fields, and barn owls and sparrowhawks hunt over the site in summer.
It has seven grass tent pitches, five gravel campervan pitches and a few furnished bell tents for three or four people. Facilities are deliberately simple: composting loos, a solar-heated shower, hand-wash stations and a washing-up area with eco detergents, a chemical disposal point, undercover bike storage and low-level lighting. Power banks and kits with a small fire pit, stove and cooking basics can be hired.
Dogs are allowed (with some breed restrictions), fires and BBQs are allowed except in dry or windy weather with fuel bought on site, and there is no reception. At the time of checking Pitchup showed no availability, so the site's current status is unconfirmed.
