Glamping The Wight Way is a small family glamping site on a working farm off Copse Lane, Freshwater, looking across fields to the River Yar estuary. It has just four identical canvas safari lodges, two in each of two linked meadows, and cars stay in a private car park about 300 metres away so the meadows are vehicle-free.

Each lodge has three bedrooms (a king room, a twin and an adult-length bunk room) plus a sofa bed, a bathroom with a slipper bath, a second washroom and loo, a deck with an outdoor hot shower, and a kitchen with gas hob and fridge. The site runs off-grid: a wood-burning stove heats the lodge and water, solar packs power the lights and USB points, and there is no wifi. Wood, linen, towels, a cot and highchair are included, and each lodge has a Kadai fire bowl that doubles as the barbecue.

It is a quiet family site: no pets at all, no hen or stag parties, quiet after 10:30pm, and changeover is on Fridays or Mondays. There is direct access to the estuary for kayaks and paddleboards, the pub is a five-minute walk and Yarmouth ferry terminal is about two miles away.

  • Three-bedroom safari lodges sleeping 6-8
  • Slipper bath and private outdoor hot shower in every lodge
  • Direct access to the River Yar estuary for paddling
  • Car-free meadows with a lending shed of garden games
  • Free vehicle ferry crossing deal on bookings
