Campsites near the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival

The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival is on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 August 2027, open 10am to 6pm each day, in the fields at the Fighting Cocks crossroads just outside Newchurch. It has been held on the third weekend of August since 1983. There is no public camping on the showground (only a little for traders), so you need a campsite nearby.

The Arreton Valley around Newchurch is full of small sites. Southland, the Caravan and Motorhome Club site, and the two farm sites at Queen's Bower are all under a kilometre away, close enough to walk over in the morning and stroll back after the last band. Mid-August is peak season, so book early, especially for hook-up pitches.

    Tickets and what to bring

For 2027 an adult (16 and over) pays £16 for a day or £25 for the weekend. Children aged 5 to 15 are £7.50 a day or £12.50 for the weekend, and under-5s go free. There is a £1 booking fee per online order, and tickets are also sold at the gates. A weekend ticket suits campers: you can leave and come back the same day with a hand stamp or your wristband.

There is no cash machine on site, and some smaller traders and charity stalls take cash only, so bring some from Sandown or Newport. Dogs are welcome on a lead, which makes the festival easy for anyone at a dog-friendly campsite.

    Getting there without the car

Southern Vectis route 8 (Newport, Robin Hill, Sandown, Bembridge and Ryde) stops right outside the main gates. Campers in Sandown, Lake or near Ryde can ride it straight to the festival; from Cowes take the 1 to Newport and change to the 8.

By bike, the Red Squirrel Trail (National Cycle Route 23) runs on old railway line between Newport and Sandown and passes close to Alverstone and Newchurch. The festival's advice is to leave it for the last mile on the main road to the site. Bike racks are provided at the festival. Parking is free in the fields next to the showground if you do drive.

    Making a weekend of it

The Garlic Farm on Mersley Lane, about 1.7 km from the festival, has a farm shop, restaurant and yurts. Robin Hill is on the route 8 bus towards Newport, and Sandown's beach is a short drive away. The Scooter Rally at Sandown Airport is usually the following weekend, over the August bank holiday, and the campsites around Apse Heath serve both.
