Windmill Campersite is a small family-run site on Froglands Farm, down a quiet lane just outside Carisbrooke with views over the castle and the Bowcombe Valley. It is known for its eccentric places to sleep: a 1965 Falklands rescue helicopter, a submarine prop from a James Bond film, a thatched shack built on a 1948 coach chassis, a UFO with a separate 'base station', several shepherd's huts and a converted milk float for cyclists and walkers. Tents and campervans are welcome too, with hook-up and awning included in the price.
Shared facilities are just as offbeat: a 1950s trolley-bus kitchen, a huge BBQ with pizza and potato ovens, a fire pit with seating (wood, coal and firelighters free), a disco shower, a silo cinema, a Robin Reliant launderette, a pirate ship and an honesty shop. The hosts keep chickens, so there are often eggs.
Carisbrooke village, with buses, a Co-op and pubs, is a ten-minute walk away, and there is a 20-acre field around the castle for dogs. Bookings are taken by email; group bookings are not accepted. There is also a three-bedroom beamed cottage in the farmyard let by the week.

Glamping units are let as Fri-Mon (3 nights) or Mon-Fri (4 nights) breaks at the same price, by party size. Millie, Percy and pitches priced per night. All prices include hook-up, awning and use of facilities. Stays of 7+ nights in lets priced on request. Extra mobile sleeping units (Insanity, Helofacopter, Bollywood VW) can be added to a let at £15/£20 a night. Nightly rates are listed with the 2-person price first because the quote engine takes the first matching rate; 1-person prices follow for reference.
