ViewRoute 7 is the main bus into the West Wight. It leaves Newport, climbs through Carisbrooke and then splits: one bus goes via Shalfleet and Cranmore on the main road, the next via Calbourne, Newbridge and Wellow. Both rejoin at Yarmouth bus station, by the Wightlink ferry, and carry on through Freshwater and Totland to the Needles Landmark Attraction at Alum Bay.
In the daytime there is a bus about every 30 minutes, Monday to Saturday and on Sundays, so each of the two middle routes gets one bus an hour. That makes it the most useful route on the island for camping without a car in the West Wight.

The winter timetable from Sunday 27 September 2026 is the same as summer 2026. Southern Vectis made no timetable changes to route 7 for winter. The first bus leaves Newport at 06:47 Monday to Saturday and 08:45 on Sundays. The last leaves Newport at 23:25 Monday to Saturday, reaching Alum Bay just after midnight, and at 22:10 on Sundays.
Heading back, the last bus from Alum Bay is 18:35, but later buses start from Totland War Memorial until 22:15 Monday to Saturday and 20:55 on Sundays. Since September 2026 the main stop in Wellow is Millennium Green, after West Wight Alpacas closed.
Lucketts Farm, Camp Wight, Eddie's Farm and Westfield Farm are on the Shalfleet and Cranmore side. The Orchards and Mill Heights are on the Calbourne side. Check which way your bus goes before you board. Every bus serves the Freshwater and Totland end, including Heathfield Farm and Stoats Farm.
Single fares are capped at £3 under the Government scheme, which was still running in October 2026. A 24 Hour Rover costs £11.40 on the app or £11.70 on paper for an adult (October 2026). You can also pay by contactless and tap on and off. The system charges no more than the best daily fare.
Southern Vectis normally allows up to two dogs on a bus at no charge, but they cannot sit on the seats. Luggage goes on only where it is safe, so a big rucksack is fine but a trolley of camping kit may not be. Folding bikes are allowed if there is room in the luggage area. Electric bikes and scooters are not.
At Yarmouth the bus station is next to the ferry to Lymington. See campsites near the Yarmouth ferry. From Yarmouth you can change to the Needles Breezer in season.
Route 12 also links Newport, Freshwater, Totland and Alum Bay, but it runs the southern way via Brighstone.
About every 30 minutes in the daytime, Monday to Saturday and on Sundays, between Newport and Alum Bay. The timetable from 27 September 2026 is the same as summer 2026. Buses alternate between the Shalfleet route and the Calbourne route, so each gets one bus an hour.
Yes. Every route 7 journey calls at Yarmouth bus station, which is next to the Wightlink terminal for the Lymington ferry.
23:25 Monday to Saturday and 22:10 on Sundays, on the timetable from 27 September 2026.
Yes. Southern Vectis normally carries up to two dogs per bus free of charge. Dogs can sit on your lap but not on the seats, and the driver has the final say.
