Bus route 22: Newchurch, Lake and Shanklin, and the campsites on it
Route 22 is a small community bus around Shanklin, run by the Community Bus Partnership of Southern Vectis and local volunteers. It runs only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and only in the late morning and early afternoon.
One bus a day comes in from Langbridge and Newchurch through Winford, Apse Heath and Lake to Shanklin, and one goes back. In between, short loops run from Shanklin bus station to Sibden Hill, the Esplanade and Lake. It is handy for a shopping trip or the beach, not for daily travel. For that, use the main routes listed below.

The Newchurch end passes Southland and the Willow Shepherd's Hut, but with one bus each way three days a week you cannot rely on it. Old Barn and Cheverton Copse are also on route 8, which runs far more often. Landguard and Lower Hyde are in walking distance of Shanklin.
Single fares are capped at £3 under the Government scheme, which was still running in October 2026. A 24 Hour Rover costs £11.40 on the app or £11.70 on paper for an adult (October 2026). Contactless tap on, tap off charges no more than the best daily fare.
Luggage, dogs and bikes
Up to two dogs normally travel free, off the seats. Luggage is carried where it is safe. Folding bikes go in the luggage area if there is room. Electric bikes and scooters are not allowed.
Where it connects
The Esplanade loop calls at Shanklin railway station for Island Line trains to Ryde Pier Head and the ferry. At Shanklin bus station you can change for routes 2 and 3.
