Bus route 2: Ryde to Brading, Sandown, Shanklin, Godshill and Newport, and the campsites on it
Route 2 links Ryde with Newport the long way round: south through Brading to Sandown, Lake and Shanklin, then inland through Godshill and Merstone. Southern Vectis runs it about every 30 minutes, seven days a week, on both the summer 2026 timetable (from 24 May) and the winter one (from 27 September 2026).
For campers the useful stops are Whitefield Forest Park on the Ryde to Brading road, Brading Church, Fort Mews in Sandown, Shanklin Bus Station, Godshill and Merstone. Route 3 shares the road between Ryde and Shanklin, so on that stretch you have two buses an hour and more each way.

Monday to Saturday the first bus leaves Newport at 06:20 (06:15 on Saturdays) and buses run every 30 minutes until 18:20. From Ryde the last departure is 18:10 on the winter timetable (18:05 in summer 2026). On Sundays and public holidays buses leave Newport every 30 minutes from 08:50 to 17:50, and Ryde from 09:40 to 17:40 in winter.

Tickets
An adult single is £3 under the government fare cap, which Southern Vectis says stays until further notice. From 30 August 2026 an adult 24-hour Rover costs £11.70 on paper or £11.40 in the app. Tap on and tap off with a contactless card and the system charges the best daily fare for your trips.
Campsites you can reach
The bus stops right outside Whitefield Forest Touring Park and the Acacia Bay cabins, and a short walk up from Brading High Street to Sunrise Hill. In Sandown, Fort Holiday Park is a minute from Fort Mews.
From Shanklin Bus Station, Lower Hyde is about a 7 minute walk, partly on the old railway path. Landguard is further, around 15 minutes, and route 22 gets closer to both.
Luggage, dogs and bikes
Southern Vectis carries luggage at the driver's discretion and can refuse anything bulky. Dogs travel free at the driver's discretion, normally no more than two, and not on seats. Bikes are only allowed if the driver agrees, though a folding bike bagged in the luggage area is usually fine. E-bikes and e-scooters are banned.
Where it connects
