ViewOf the 12 campsites within 2.2 miles of the Island Steam Fair, 7 take tents.
A tent is the easiest way to do the fair without a car, because two good options start from Wootton station. Route 9 buses stop right outside it, and the steam train runs from there to Havenstreet.
Oakdene Orchard on Packsfield Lane is about ten minutes' walk from Wootton station, with screened pitches and a fire pit on each. It was not taking bookings when we checked, so confirm first. Kite Hill Farm has showers and is a few minutes' walk from the route 9 bus. Wild Oak Farm is the closest of all, about 18 minutes on foot from the fair, but it has no showers.
Most of the pitches here are in or beside woodland, so they are sheltered rather than exposed. Retro Staycations is the exception, in an open meadow below Ashey Down. Valerian Sun Club takes tents but is a naturist club. See taking a tent on the ferry.
