Dog friendly campsites near the Island Steam Fair, Isle of Wight

Of the 12 campsites within 2.2 miles of the Island Steam Fair, 7 take dogs.

The steam railway is good with dogs. They can travel on all its trains, on a short lead and off the seats. That means a dog can come on the train from Wootton or Smallbrook Junction. The railway does not publish separate dog rules for the fair, so expect crowds, loud engines and a fairground, and think about whether your dog will enjoy it.

The fields nearby take dogs readily. Kite Hill Farm charges nothing for dogs, has a dog walking area and backs onto Firestone Copse. Wild Oak Farm takes up to three dogs a pitch free, but it is a livestock farm. At Retro Staycations dogs must stay on a lead in the camping field, because cattle graze next door, and they are not allowed in the Airstreams.

Wootton station is on National Cycle Route 22 between Ryde and Newport, which makes a quieter dog walk away from the crowds. See our camping with dogs guide.
