The woods around Havenstreet have more fire-friendly camping than almost anywhere else on the island. Within about 2 miles of the station, two sites let you light a fire on your pitch, and several more give you a fire pit.
Wild Oak Farm at Great Briddlesford is the pick for the fair. You can have a campfire on the pitch, and Havenstreet station is about 1.2 km away along Station Road, roughly 18 minutes on foot, so you can walk back from the fairground without moving the car. The Woodland Retreat at Fishbourne also lists campfires, but we could not confirm it is open. Retro Staycations on Ashey Road allows fires and barbecues only if they are raised off the grass, and sells logs on site.
The fair is in late August, and dry summers can bring fire warnings and site bans at short notice. Bring a raised fire bowl if you have one, and check our campfires and BBQs guide.
