Dog friendly campsites near Fort Victoria, Isle of Wight

Of the 9 campsites within 3.1 miles of Fort Victoria, 6 take dogs.

Fort Victoria is the answer to the summer beach bans. The beach either side of the fort has no dog restrictions at any time of year, and the woodland and the coast path give longer walks: east to Yarmouth is about 2km each way. At Colwell Bay to the south, dogs are only allowed east of the slipway from 1 May to 30 September, so in summer the two make a good pairing; see dog-friendly sites near Colwell Bay.

Keep dogs out of the water off the fort. The council warns of strong, fast tidal currents between Fort Victoria and Hurst Castle. The attractions inside the fort are run privately with their own rules, so ask before taking a dog in. Dogs must be on leads on roads, pavements and verges across the island.

If you are arriving by car ferry, your dog cannot stay in the car: Wightlink keeps pets in the pet-friendly passenger areas during the crossing. See camping with dogs.
