The cheapest night near the start is usually at basecamp itself. In 2027 a small self-pitch for two or three people costs £25 for one night or £45 for both, parking included, with hot showers and hot drinks for all campers. That beats paying £7 to park at Chale and a pitch elsewhere.
The next saving is transport. Coming as a foot passenger, the 2027 shuttle from West Cowes to Chale is £20 each way, and the participant discount on Red Funnel covers the Red Jet as well as the car ferry. Bus route 6 links Newport and Chale, but it runs only about six times a day, so do not rely on it for the 8.30am Ultra March start.
