Dog friendly campsites near Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight

Of the 9 campsites within 2.5 miles of Freshwater Bay, 6 take dogs.

From 1 May to 30 September part of Freshwater Bay beach is closed to dogs under the council's order, with signs marking the stretch. Out of season the whole bay is open. For a summer paddle, Totland Bay, about 2.5km north-west, has no seasonal ban, and Compton Bay to the east is National Trust land, so follow the Trust's signs there.

The downs either side are the bigger draw. Cattle graze Tennyson Down wearing GPS collars rather than behind fences, and the National Trust asks for short leads near them; from 1 March to 31 July leads are also required where signs mark ground-nesting birds. The cliff edges are unfenced. In Freshwater village the Red Lion welcomes dogs, and The Carisbrooke Vets has a branch surgery on School Green Road with limited hours.

For glamping with a dog, Tapnell Farm takes dogs in most units; Glamping The Wight Way takes no pets at all. See camping with dogs.
