Freshwater Bay is not a place for a beach fire. The Isle of Wight Council strongly advises against disposable barbecues on beaches and in parks, and in summer 2025 a bin on the bay was left melted and charred after a hot one was thrown away in it. At the end of July 2026 councillors asked for more work on a possible ban rather than drop the idea, so look for new signs on the seafront.
For a fire at night, pick a site that provides one. At Stoats Farm, about 40 minutes over Tennyson Down, you hire a fire pit from reception with a Swedish log that burns for about two and a half hours; your own pits and other fuel are not allowed, and barbecues must be raised and charcoal only. Each lodge at Glamping The Wight Way has a Kadai fire bowl that doubles as the barbecue, with wood included, and every glamping unit at Tapnell Farm has its own fire pit and barbecue with logs supplied.
