The National Trust car parks along the Military Road do not allow overnight parking, and the road is a clearway, so vans on the verges get tickets. Visitors report height barriers of about 2m on parts of the Compton car park, with an area without a barrier that larger vans use. It fills early on summer surf days.
For the night, the nearest pitch is Compton Farm, a quarter of a mile from the beach. It has no hook-ups and suits small, self-contained vans. The Bungalow CL above Freshwater Bay has a drive-over waste point for members, and Stoats Farm takes vans up to 8m on hardstanding, with fully serviced pitches. Stoats asks motorhomes not to use Alum Bay Old Road, which has a 6ft 6in width limit.
