Campsites near Compton Bay where you can have a campfire, Isle of Wight

Of the 9 campsites within 3.1 miles of Compton Bay, 4 allow campfires in some form.

There is no fire on the sand at Compton. The beach, the car parks and the downs above are National Trust land, where fires and barbecues are not allowed. The summer of 2026 showed why: in July a fire the fire service called man-made burned about 60 acres of Headon Warren, the Trust's heath above Alum Bay, and took several days to put out. ITV reported 13 large outdoor fires on the island by early August, more than in the whole of 2025.

So the evening fire happens back at the campsite. The nearest field that has allowed fires on the pitch is Chapelfurlong Farm at Hulverstone, but it is basic, with no showers, and we found no confirmed 2026 dates. Stoats Farm under Tennyson Down hires out fire pits with a Swedish log that burns for about two and a half hours. You cannot bring your own pit or any other fuel.

The glamping sites give each unit its own fire. Compton Farm, the closest pitch to the beach, does not say whether fires are allowed, so ask when you book. Our campfires guide covers the rules across the island.
