Of the 12 campsites within 2.6 miles of Tapnell Farm Park, 6 allow campfires in some form.
Tapnell is one of the few places on the island where the fire comes with the room. Every glamping unit has its own fire pit and barbecue, with logs, briquettes and firelighters supplied, and there is a communal pizza oven in the woods behind the safari tents. Camp Tapnell is stricter: no portable charcoal barbecues and no fire pits of your own, just a communal fire pit with logs. Bring your own kindling and firelighters for that one.
If you are pitching your own tent, Camp Wight at Ningwood, about 2 miles north-east, is set up for fires. They go in the site's raised washing-machine-drum pits, hired at £5 a night with wood, kindling and firelighters, and are allowed except in extreme drought. Mill Heights at Calbourne allows fires only if raised off the ground. Lucketts Farm near Yarmouth has allowed fires, but publishes no rules, so ask.
Away from the campsites, keep fires off the downs. Fires are not allowed on National Trust land, and in July 2026 a man-made fire burned about 60 acres of Headon Warren in the West Wight. See the campfires guide.
