The simplest way to do Colwell in a motorhome is not to drive it to the beach. The council car park down Colwell Chine Road charged £6.20 for four hours in 2026, while Heathfield Farm is about 600m from the slipway: park on the pitch and walk down in 10 to 15 minutes. Buses stop at Heathfield's entrance for Totland and Alum Bay.
Heathfield's pitches are grass, but the ground is very level. It shuts its gate at 10.30pm and wants no vehicle movement late at night, so sunset on the sea wall is a walk, not a drive. For water and grey waste on the pitch, Stoats Farm at Totland has fully serviced pitches, about 40 minutes' walk from Colwell along the Totland sea wall.
The beach is a short drive from the Yarmouth ramp. Wightlink's Motorhome Special is not valid from 07:55 to 14:59 Monday to Saturday, so it suits early or late sailings, and the Caravan and Motorhome Club says members save up to 50% on Economy Motorhome fares.
