Campsites near the Fishbourne ferry terminal where you can have a campfire, Isle of Wight

Of the 14 campsites within 3.1 miles of the Fishbourne ferry terminal, 7 allow campfires in some form.

Coming off the Portsmouth boat with firewood in the boot is easy, and several of the sites closest to Fishbourne let you use it. Two allow fires on the pitch itself.

The Woodland Retreat in The Plantation is the nearest, about 12 to 15 minutes' walk from the ramp, and lists campfires. It was not taking bookings when we checked, so confirm first. Wild Oak Farm at Great Briddlesford, about 10 minutes' drive, is the surer option for a pitch-side fire. At Oakdene Orchard each pitch has its own fire pit. Retro Staycations allows fires only if they are raised off the grass, and sells logs.

Big lodge parks near the ferry are stricter. Woodside's two Darwin Escapes parks allow no campfires, and barbecues only on racks that staff fit to your deck. In dry spells, sites can stop fires at short notice. See our campfires and BBQs guide.
