Fires and car-free arrivals do not mix easily. Wightlink and Hovertravel expect you to carry your own bags, and a sack of logs is heavy on a long pier. The nearest fire-friendly sites solve that: two of them supply or sell the wood.
Retro Staycations on Ashey Road is the closest campsite to the pier. It allows fire pits and barbecues if they are raised off the ground, sells logs, and has a communal fire area, so you do not need to bring a bowl. Acacia Bay Woodlands, two cabins near Whitefield Forest, gives each cabin a fire pit with firewood supplied. The Woodland Retreat at Fishbourne lists campfires on the pitch, but it was not taking bookings when we checked.
Ryde beach is not a fire spot. In 2025 the council asked people to avoid disposable barbecues on beaches and in parks after bin fires on the seafront, including one in Ryde's Western Gardens. Whitefield Forest allows no campfires because of the woodland. See our campfires and BBQs guide.

The council has asked people not to use disposable barbecues on beaches or in parks, after barbecue waste set fire to seafront bins in Ryde and elsewhere in 2025. Use a campsite instead.
