Pitching near Appuldurcombe puts you in a valley rather than on the coast. Appuldurcombe Gardens' camping field is sheltered, in the valley beneath Stenbury Down on the same lane as the house, with hook-up on every pitch, a heated block and an outdoor pool in season. It takes one tent and one car per pitch, up to six people, and does not accept walk-ins.

Walkers have good routes from the door. The Worsley Trail passes within about half a kilometre of the house on its way between Brighstone Forest and Shanklin. From Godshill, the circular walk via Freemantle Gate, the house and the Worsley obelisk is about 5.5 miles, with roughly 270 metres of climbing.

Two simple options have no showers: Rusty Meadow, a summer hay meadow south of Godshill, and New Bank End Farm at St Lawrence, which takes tents only if campers bring their own toilet and washing kit.
